    Guys! Gimme Motivation!

My E30, has blown shocks, and a ghetto stance. (Cut Eibach Sport Springs, Looks Great! Rides like shit!). I have been saving for the Full GC Coil-Over Kit with shortened struts for a while, I now have enough money, but I don't wanna spend it now! I wanna go the cheaper, IE Stage III/Billy Sports/Drop Hats. What do you guys think? I want the stance, but is it really worth it? This is a daily driver, in it's future holds a couple track days, but mainly daily driver.

I'm torn. $2000 is a lot for a college student.

Just know if you get the shock and springs combo, you will still want coilovers. That's how it always is.

I rock IE springs, and Bilstein Sports. Amazing ride for a DD...

Obviously coilovers would be ideal, but really...the aformentioned setup is dreamy.

Do the coils. You would hate to spend the money on IE and then when all is said and done still want coilovers. I have GCs with the TCK top adjustable konis and couldn't imagine it any other way. Though mine isn't really that 'low' as I more wanted the performance then just 'stance'.

If you are really looking for just 'stance' coils are the only way to dial it in and make sure the car looks in person the way it does in your head. Since the GC springs are a standard size springs if you find they're too stiff for your DD liking you can get new springs. Or just the opposite if they're not stiff enough. With IEs you are more or less stuck with the spring rate they give you. And whether or not you like their rates for DD with stock valved bilstiens is a matter of personal preference. Some like it, some don't. I'm picky and have control issues so I like to be able to change and adjust what I want when I want.

Either that or do IE's potentially hate your self for talking your self out of it, and wait for college to be over to re-do the entire suspension.

Is 2k really worth it just for "stance"?

^ This for $300 bux in the Group buy, you'll get the stance you want and the DD ride you need. There's no need to spend all that money on a GC set for a DD and the JOM set is a good product. If you want short body shocks you can upgrade to some Konis later on down the road. It's a complete WIN/WIN situation.

Hell I won't have an e30 again for at least a few more months and I'm gonna get in on the group buy just to have them ready for when I do get an e30!

GC kit with chosen rates - $400
                  Front Koni short body x2 - $400
Camber plates of your choice - $200 - $300 (used?)
Fabrication to modify your struts - $____ (what ever the going rate is @ a shop or do it yourself?)

Looks like less than $2000 to me. And you still have money to buy rear Koni's if that's what you want opposed to what ever you might already have.
To save more money, you can just buy the parts one by one if you can't justify dropping $2k in one day.

Get the 399 kit from GC and mod the housings, that will run 900 with the Sports.

JOM is a step backwards, it may ride good when new, but how long is that gonna last?

Seriously I have no idea where you are getting your figures but if you are just after stance and not great racing ability there is no reason you can't spend under $1400 for a decent "stance" setup.

I do sometimes wish I would have just went springs/shocks/drop hats, would have left over money for extra things. But your car looks clean, I would just spend the money on a decent coil over setup.

Sigh. Agreed. I have a full gc set up, welded tubes, standard sa konis, with expensive vorshlag camber plates. I even had my rear subframe welded with the alignment tabs for proper camber/toe.

Problem is, I don't drive her enough to justify the parts I bought. Then again she's been garaged since I've bought her.

(perhaps I like building cars but really don't care as much for the driving aspect)

                          (yes, wtf!?)

Buy a decent set of springs/shocks/struts used, then resell if/when you need GC stuff
