This is always something I have running thru my head when I ride. This is also one of the reasons that I bought an older Honda Goldwing! Yes it is a big bike and yes it will take a beating but I have a lot between me and the ground and other vehicles. I got sideswiped by some jackoff that was tailgating me and just had to pass me on a residential street with kids playing nearby. Several witnesses say it and they got the guys plate. Did more damage to his car than to my bike!!! The best part of riding is enjoying the sights and sounds and kicking the hell out of the cars when they try to merge into my lane. I wear a set of military issue boots whenever I ride and some of them have steel toes!! Broken three windows out to date!!

Hope your friend makes a speedy recovery!

      Good news.
He has started moving his arms again, and there might be some feeling back in his legs.
      More updates later.

          Deutschman,

That's GREAT news! I'm out of the country for a few weeks, but I look forward to more good news upon my return. Still praying for your friend.

Glad to hear it. As a lifeguard we used to see a ton of spinal injuries, but we don't get to see the follow up too much. It's always good to hear someone recovered, especially how much it sucks to see what they're going through while you try to help them.

I'm not answering the questions for you because quite frankly, I don't want to be driving on the same road as you if you cant answer them yourself.

Same crap happened to me in 05. Luckily instead of going under the SUV I did a Superman over it and landed on the other side sliding 30 feet down the road into an intersection. I haven't ridden since...mainly because my bike was totaled. Hope he's better soon!

that sucks man just saw this thread, I too used to ride a motorcycle, and had my close encounters with cars , but i was lucky that the engine of my bike died before it could kill me.
I hope your friend will fully recover soon,
and to the rest of us, just slowdown and be carful on a motorcycle or in our BMWs

I've ridden my bikes about 3 times in the last 2 years (since my daughter was born). I just feel too uncertain every time I'm on the things. :( VERY sorry to hear about your friend and I pray he recovers.

this guy must be an autobot if he's regaining feeling/movement in his limbs!
hopefully if he gets it all back he'll sell the bike for parts and.... buy an e30!

Our forums are full of stories like this. Its nothing new. The last day of the first season I rode, I was riding through a small downtown area with a green separating the directions. This woman just pulls halfway out because she is looking the WRONG direction for pulling out. Almost took me out. You learn quick that you have no control of your surroundings. After riding for just 4 years, I could fill a page with my close calls.
