    its been a while.
    from his mom.
What a surprise as we walked in the door. There was Adam, for the first time, cruising around the room in an electric wheelchair. He is learning to operate the controls with his left wrist. He left his room to tour the facilities and even go outdoors. He was allowed to sit straight up in the chair for more than an hour—part of the... physical therapy. I also noticed increased mobility in his left wrist and just a hint of biceps action in the right arm.

Biased to say that many riders think they won't ever get into an accident...from my experience and my own things its the exact opposite. I ride with the knowledge I am putting myself at risk and will most likely get hurt one day and I just tried really hard to minimize the damage. I also keep my basic riding training in mind as it has kept me out of alot of spills. And riders shouldn't be defensive but imo offensive riding, the way I see it I can't be defensive because I can't take the hit. I usually assume the guy doesn't see me and ride with that mentality has kept me out of trouble.

So your friend isnt walking? Likely he ever will?

Sad but common story I guess. Man I hate to hear it. Still... hope for the best.

Stepdads' buddy got in a motorcycle accident and lost his leg in it. Its probably been 12 years now and he has been having issue after issue ever since. I have pretty much 0 interest in getting a bike. It doesn't matter how good a driver you are, its the other person. If you're in a car you have a pretty good chance, a bike however leaves your exponentially more exposed...

yep. its the other people out there. 2 out of three of the car accidents i have been in (all very miner) were the other person being a complete fucking space head.
He will most likely never use his legs again. He is regaining some movement in his arms, and we are hoping he gets his arms back completely! :D

This same thing happened to me in 05 but with a Tahoe. I was lucky enough to go over the truck though and only end up with F'd up knees.

                I hope he gets better.
Only drive your bike on broad daylight to get some parts at the local auto parts store for your daily. Don't daily a bike. IMO that is.

:( I hope the good news keeps pouring in. This is something I will definitely need to remind myself when i get back to the states. People are so careless in their cars (in new england) and they almost make it a point to make life hell for motorcyclists. Luckily my commutes usually revolved around early early morning, to just after rush hour. But accidents (like this) can happen any time anywhere.

Thanks for the reminder, and I hope your buddy recovers well. Best wishes

Still keeping your friend in my thoughts and prayers. Sounds like he is on the mend. Hopefully that continues!

i just saw this for the first time today. Your friend is LUCKY to even be alive, my thoughts and prayers are definitely with him!

I saw an eerily similar accident happen right in front of my eyes almost 2 years ago now, Guy ran a light in an SUV pulling out onto a highway, cut off a motorcycle going 90km/h(speed limit). The rest is too graphic for me to feel comfortable posting, lets just say it was obvious the guy on the bike did not survive.

Ever since then, i have vowed to NEVER get on a streetbike.... dirtbikes sure, but never on the streets. Many do not understand that you can be a world champion biker, but all it takes is one car to pull in front of you. Laws of physics take over at that point and there is NOTHING anyone can do, doesnt matter how well you can handle a bike, or how long you have been riding.......

Sorry about your friend. I really hope the best for him and hopefully a miracle occur to able him to walk again.

I've been contemplating about getting a bike this summer, but after reading this, I don't think I will with all the crazy/reckless drivers in my city.

All my wishes go out to your friend and his recovery. I hope he doesn't lose sight of his potential in life, with or without use of his legs.

I, too, want a motorcycle. There are so many sobering reminders of the danger.. maybe I should just stick to dirt.

Glad to hear hes recovering some use of his limbs. Everytime I even mention the word motorcycle my gf freaks out.
