alright, it's nearly 5am and i havent bothered to read the rest of the posts, but i found a V1 on CL for $200 and picked it up. it's saved me from multiple tickets, and the one day i let someone borrow it, BAM, $300 ticket.

i'd say be patient and search for one.

I've had a V1 for nine years and it has always performed extremely well. I think they're built better than the other detectors (magnesium case vs. plastic) and the arrows and bogey counter are extremely helpful. I also like how if you buy one you can keep the unit and have it updated as new updates come out. VERY cool.

So this thread is about douche nozzles that want to speed down the road but not get caught... Cool.

I don't want to speed.. I want to drift, do burnouts, drive-by-shootings and all that other cool shit.

never been caught off guard by an officer of the law who just wanted to make an example of you?

I don't have a radar detector, but it's not neccesarily the case that you get one just so you can speed as much as you want..

I work at the local precinct as a fleet serviceman, I asked a few highway patrol officers about them and they said that they have ways around those detectors, Most cops don't use radar anymore. They use laser which the radar detector won't recognize until too late.

Instead of spending money on a radar detector, use a GPS. Almost all of them give you a true speed readout.

Another thing to keep in mind, the cops I've talked to usually give out warnings half the time. Out of the 3 of them, they have only given 2 warnings to people with detectors in view.

This might be true in big cities, but most suburban cops still use radar as their main source. Also laser can only be used if sitting still on the side of the road, if they're driving they have their radar guns on to alert your detector.

i can tell ya that rule does not apply in most places. Cops given traffic tickets is a business. Serve & Collect......

True, but the point still stands. If a cop sees a radar detector you are basically screwed.

There is a big difference between making time and being dangerous. Most traffic tends to flow above the limit as it is, and a radar helps make sure you aren't the one that gets picked come the end of the month quota time.

Are you implying that speed limits are purely for our safety and should be observed universally? Is I-84 a safer road when it is 75 limit, then changes to 65 when you cross the ore-ida border? Does Idaho have safer concrete? Does I-80 become a different interstate when you move from Iowa to Nebraska? The speed limit goes up 15mph.

Speed limits are for revenue generation, and a nader induced misconception that "speed kills".

The national 55mph speed limit in the 70's was a political move in response to oil prices, not for our safety. My parents generation bombed down I-5 in cars with bias ply tires, drum brakes, no seatbelts, and 80mph speed limits.

I'm not here to stir shit, but if you're interested in the subject I highly recommend reading the book "American Autobahn". I believe it is out of print but amazon shows many used copies available. I might still have my copy and would be willing to lend it by mail if you're interested.

My crappy $40 Whistler radar detector works fine. Saved me multiple times. I know where the majority of RI piggies hide on my way to school.
