trip to the junkyard today:
e36 window switches................$4.99 ea. (meh...)
door panels, great condition.......$14.99 ea.
24 year old uncracked dash.......$30
bunch containing: a lot more e30 and e36 window switches, side markers, HVAC panel, various switches .............free (I didn't steal anything, they were just cool enough to let me have them)
being able to sport a dash with no cracks.............priceless
I was impressed to see a lot of E30s today. By a lot I mean like 6, both early and late model. Usually I can call myself lucky to find one or two with something still salvageable. There were other BMWs as well, and I didn't have time to go through every "aisle" in the import section. I found that perfect dash about 30 min. before their closing time. Gladly I was able to pull it in time, without removing the steering wheel. I was very surprised to see that perfect dash there, just waiting for me. They sell normally for more than what the J/Y probably paid for the whole car. There were a lot of good parts that fortunately I don't need, but I'm sure some of you guys here probably do. Fenders, doors, side mirrors, bumpers, rear seats, door panels (the ones I got are black, all the other good ones were tan), tail lights (early and late style) in great shape.
I would have bought a bunch of those tails to add to my stash, but I didn't bring a lot of money (they're not cheap), but I already have 2 sets and I hope I will never have to use more than one, and I didn't want to risk buying something I'll probably never use and that nobody would buy from me. It's just sad not being able to save those from the crusher, let's face it, these parts will be less and less availabe each year. Maybe I'll go again tomorrow see what else I can find.
