Saw a rare Shark yesterday, an "ML6."

Anybody ever seen one of these? Apparently, they were very rare, and like other L6's were only made in the US in 1987 model years.

This one had all the luxury options of an L6, but was also an M. However, like the other L6's had automatic transmission, however I spoke with the owner of the car, who told me it had an early version of Steptronic transmission. Cool, I guess.

He also told me to make him an offer. I'm seriously considering it. That car was in beautiful shape. clean and straight. the interior looked like it needed some work, and I didn't ask the mileage. But I've been dreaming about it all day. Sure it's an automatic, but if it's as rare as they say it is, I might want to have it.

Anybody ever seen one? Are they all that rare? What should I offer him?

Of course, not that I can afford it right now, but you never know when I might trip over a suitcase full of cash.

No such thing as ML6, maybe a L6 with m tech stuff, but all L6's were m30 powered.

Really? Hmm, you think the badge was custom made? I've certainly never heard of one before yesterday, so you're probably right. But there was a very convincing "///ML6" badge on the back.

If I find myself back on that street I will surely take some photos of the car and the badge. And if I decide to investigate further, I'll take a look at the engine.

The L6 was basically an auto 635 with the leather covered dash and all the options. The transmission was not anything special. Standard auto used in all 6 series. M6's have the leather covered dash and most of the options as well. M6's also have a manual gearbox.

It's just an M badge someone stuck in front of an L6.

Well if anything it was a custom made badge, not just an ///M slapped in front of an L6. I'll get a photo next time I'm in the area. The car isn't going anywhere.

I was definitely suspicious about an automatic M. And I've certainly never heard of steptronic transmission in any 80's BMWs.

Still it was worth the investigation

Should have told him you wanted to see the engine.

I will next time. I didn't really get a chance to check out any details or drive the car or anything like that. It was merely a chance encounter.

Basically what happened was I had a meeting in Santa Monica and arrived about 20 minutes early. I noticed two e24's parked down the street and since I had a few minutes I thought I'd go take a look. (The other one was an '84 633). I checked out both cars, and as I started to walk away, the owner of the cars came out of his house after noticing me. (Now that I think of it, it was actually quite creepy). We struck up a conversation about the cars and that was it.

If I decide to take further interest in the car, I will certainly follow all the car buying steps.

They are, indeed, incredibly rare: total production was zero units.

So much bullshit here, I wouldn't even know where to begin.

The only thing that makes an L6 special is the interior; particularly if you find one in Lotus White. If the interior is rough, then the car is pretty much pointless.

Reminds me of when my friend got all excited because he saw a "b-spec" RSX. The kid rattled off a bunch of "factory" enhancements to my friend.

Well, i guess i have to bow to Brian and whats his name, i found the cars local mechanic, yes, it was a 745 turbo grey, the 745 fell off in the car wash, they had a 535 badge, put it on the car, the owner didn't care, the 745 badge was going to take too long to order. I'm sorry i didn't triple check all the info before i drove it.

I think you got the wrong thread.

Everybody else, I get it! They don't exist. Read the whole thread, geez!!

Still it is possible that the car was upgraded to an M (minus the transmission). If I want to investigate further, I will look at the engine and ask to see service records.
