Has anyone else seen this scam?

I found a car that is about ten grand too cheap on a local classifieds,but the car is across the country. The seller says, no problem I will drive it to you.So what about sending money across the country? Well they appear to have a pre written email they send to you explaing how if you fedex half, to their location but to a different name, and then you change the receivers name to theirs once you get the car. So I said why not just pay you when you get here? It would be the same, but they say its a warranty for them if you send half to westernunion*Even though they cant get the money anyways* Sounds incredibly fishy to me. Anyone else seen this, and where?

Sounds super sketchy to me, I was dealing with something like that an they told me to western union a *deposit* to them as proof of my intent to buy. Of course they sent a confirmation email that was supposed to setup a payment to western union but after checking the web address it was obviously from another source, I called them on it, and never heard from them again...

Tell them you would prefer an escrow company and watch them never call you again.

Escrow is placing money in bond with a REPUTABLE company who holds it until completion.

Autotrader has stuff like this all the time. Do a search for s2000's under $15,000, any distance. You'll see a 2002 with 6k miles for $10,500. If you try to call the number it will be a fax machine. Email them and they'll want to send you the car and all you have to do is send them $5k. Then when you get the car you send them the other $5k.

Yup autotrader has a few cars like that. For instance an $8K E46 M3! yeah right. I asked this guy if I could go see it and he said the car wasn't in the states but in the UK and would be shipped, blah, blah, blah.

Yea thats what sparked this threat, a 99 M3 for 6k. That was posted to a detroit classifieds but then the car is in LA. The seller was willing to drive it to me if I paid half to western union. I said I would fly out and drive it home, but oh no, please let me drive it to you. hah
