    E36 interior swap

Spent yesterday working on my friends E36. He got a set of black Vaders with the back seats, door panels, pillar covers, center console, etc all in black. Big upgrade from his tan non-sport seats. We painted a ton of the other interior parts with VHT Vinyl Dye (black). This stuff is amazing! In the satin finish, it looks OEM after painting. The paint penetrates the parts well, and gives a lasting finish. The spray pattern of the cans is good, but not as good as the VHT caliper paint I have used.

I'd recommend the paint. I might even do my entire door panels black now using that.

Here are some pics. We didn't get any of it done, because it got dark out.

I've seen that VHT vinyl dye at some places, looks pretty good! I'm going to be swapping in my new dashboard soon, which is from a 318iS, and it's a much deeper black than my current dash, so I think I'm going to pull out my center console and ebrake console, and paint them with the same stuff I used on the center of my M-Tech II wheel. It's SEM ColorCoat, made for vinyl, plastic, etc.

I'm also going to paint my kick panels black, to continue the black of the dash down to the floor. It should go along well with my black door handles, and hopefully I'll be getting my new seats soon, which are black also

is the SEM a more professional version of the VHT? i've worked with SEM before when i made some custom tweeter pods for a saturn, but never VHT. i also have never redyed/repainted a dash so i dont know what is best for that.

i'm going to refinish the dash on my car as well.

I think VHT is about as good as it gets. We bought the VHT paint online by the case.

Blister, thank you for that very helpful and informative post.

                    Crazy shoeless flordians.

Does the paint smell linger in the car for a long time?

                    Sold it.

                        Nice job!

I used some vinyl spray from walmart or something, it worked well for my door pulls. Starting to chip a bit now though.

Where's the best price on this dye?

                        Very cool!! :D

hummm. Might have to do this to all of the interior stuff just so they match. I don't like the different shades of black that are all over the dash etc.
