you have to change the bbs that this forum runs off...my motorcycle forum has what we call the shoutbox(SB). its pretty cool, you can tell people they have PM's or say things like-"hey anyone wana grab lunch" without starting an entire thread.

I could pm and ask the owner of the BMX site I am on.We go back and forth with emails now and then.He really digs the ice cream stickers I give out on there.
I can ask him what set up he is using to run the chat there if that helps?
