    Should I pick up a '84 325e for $2250???

So one of my buddies has a 1984 325e with 110k miles and that he is asking $2250 for. It is alpine white with a red leather interior in very good shape. It is in pretty stocky condition and I would rate the exterior at an 8/10 and the interior at an 8/10. I am wondering if this could be an es because of the leather interior and the es spoiler on the car. What are your guys thoughts? Is this a good buy?

no one can make an intelligent judgement without detailed pictures. In general any eta is pretty worthless compared to an "i" or "is", so off the bat my suspicion is that $2250 is VERY steep for an eta, especially an '84.

I have no pictures as of now but I have pretty high standards and the body is strait with just a few dings. The interior has very minimal faing and very little wear. Not even craked up.

For that money it'd better be 10/10 interior and exterior. Etas are fun cars but the value just isn't there.

Also, make sure that your buddy has maintenance records. Especially timing belt and water pump. If they haven't been changed in the last 50k, or there are no documents to show that they've been changed, plan on doing that work as soon as you get the car home and adjust your offer accordingly.

We really need pics. It is DEFINATELY not an eS due to the fact that the 325eS was not available in 1984, it was introduced in '86. As far as the options that you describe they were available in '84. As the 325e was the top of the line 3-series in North America for that year, most are fairly heavily optioned compared to the later etas.

As for price, I got my '84 eta for $1800, and besides the interior, which I planned on reupholstering anyway, the car was pretty much pristene. Going off that, even without pics I'd say $2250 is steep.

Small strut tubes, drum brakes? $2K? No.

If that has been fixed, maybe?

              Pix.

Nah, I'd hold out for an i. BTW, even 84 325e's had 51mm struts and rear discs. It's the 318i that didn't.

Your wrong good sir, the 84 e has full disk brakes all around. I believe it has the larger strut tubes also. Me, having owned a 1984 325e would know this. I'd say 90% of 84e's are loaded to the brim with options. I had sport seats, 13 button obc, power everything. I miss that car a lot.

I'd haggle him down to 1800 and buy it.

Damnit, got beat, got beat good.

Thats right, I forgot. The '84 I parted had disks too.

The 3/4" of bondo on the left pillar was aftermarket though
