    Vin-tag reproduction?

I'm planning on changing some body panels, and I'm wondering if anyone reproduces those little vin stickers you see on all the panels.

I'm no genius, but that almost sounds like replicating a vin number for such a reason is a federal offense.

There is a company out there that re-produces VIN tags for body shops. Placards, etc. I't out there, I just can't recall off hand what it was called.

Everything is pretty easy with the help of Photoshop though. E30 vin stickers are among the easiest as well.

There is a guy on S14 that does it, however he leaves out the BMW logo to ensure that people aren't passing replacement panels off as originals.

This really begs the question though, what genuine reason would you have to put VIN stickers on a replacement panel? In my mind it smacks of fraud.

Yeah I agree. The only reason you would ever want a new tag for a different panel is to deceive someone else.

What about when people paint the panels? If I remember correctly there are stickers on the door in the door jams and also in the drip rail on top of each front fender. Mine are covered from being painted over when the original owner got a cheap-o Maaco paint job to sell it. I'd like to get the car fully repainted and would love to have a fresh set of VIN tags to put back on it.

yea not gonna happen the legal way. I used to work for a dealer's body shop (BMW was one of the franchises owned) and we almost could never get any stickers that had VIN's on them.

Live with the fact that your fender was replaced, or your hood, or your bumper. It's really not that big of a deal.

Not at all, I'm just really anal about the most minute details.
It'd just be bugging me in the back my mind.
just like having a tool set with red handle screwdrivers and a bmw cloth, do you need it...no, does it effect the resale value...not really, It just the small details that make the car what it is...

I sell tons of 2002 vin tags stamped with VIN numbers but for every one sold I have a scanned copy of the owners original title
