5 speed swap. No crank , no start.

Just finished hooking up harness. Pulled the engine out and tranny out at the same time. Now I go to start it and I get a relay click. But nothin else. Starter worked prior to engine and tranny removal .

Car is an 85 325e. Battery good. No blown Fuses. Nothing special with the wiring when doing a 5 speed swap in an early model. Right ? The only wiring I've done is the wiring you have to change around in the center console.

Here is what my starter wiring looks like.

Any other sensors that would cause a no crank?

When I did my 5-speed swap here recently, there were some wire attached to the auto-shifter that I had to cut and splice together in order to bypass the "Park" setting that it needs to be in to start on the automatics.

That is called the neutral safety switch, and if the OP didn't consider that then it is likely the culprit.

The early models have flywheel sensors. I don't think them being reversed would cause a no crank, just a no start. I followed a similar wiring diagram .

Replaced relay with new one still nothing.

That will be the winner when the OP decides to check it.

That would be the black and green wire to the green and yellow wire that you jump put...bypassing the switch.

Would a fried DME cause this? My friend shorted out the starter power cable on a sheetmetal ground. No fuses blow. But could that have damaged anything?

that would be no start, but crank. the only thing controlling the motor from cranking is the starter and the safety switch.

                  I FOUND ZEE PROBLEM

Terminal 50...or whatever the fuck its called...the BLACK AND YELLOW wire was attached at the wrong terminal on the starter. for whatever reason theres two spades on the solonoid...theres one on ytop and one on the bottom, it goes on the bottom spade which you need to be under the car to see. Car cranks after attaching that.

I was going to say engine ground strap, but I guess you figured it out.

Josh and I were swapping his oil pan once and forgot to hook the grounding strap back up when we were done. Confused the hell out of us until we figured out what it was.

Now to get it actually running...while I habve a thread. Can anyone show me the coolant hose routing from the back of the head? just need a picture if anyone has one...Ill prolly go to the Junkyard and just take a peek at the one there.
