YES! The first car I ever drove on a semi-regular basis was my parents '91 Previa. Think about it:

Supercharged + mid engined + rear wheel drive = Ferrari of minivans

I had one this year, a 95. It was supercharged, it had a clutched computer operated roots style supercharger.

rwd with some nice rear shocks.

It had 190 lb ft tq. it wasnt slow as is.

it had 16/22 epa mpg which is actually close to a modern full size american v8 gas mobile.

That roots supercharger will just suck gas if you want too go fast.

It definitely had a top speed around 120.

Its a great vehicle honestly and often very cheap on the used market. But it has very few engine upgrade options.

The biggest one would be to import the diesel version of the previa engine. It gets more like 35 mpg.

and also making a rotary fabricating a connection to the accessory drive( Giving it some thought this might not work anyway)

The previa is like he said, its a ferrari. Mid engine rwd or awd, independent suspension.

It screams hot rod , but on the opposite side it has the smallest engine bay of any car I know of including an rx7.

Sounds like a lump of metal trying to be everything and coming short on most of them..

That is fair too.

It is functional at truck, sporty car, and mom van and even camper van ( notice the rear seats? the fold to the side not down using some ancient tech not used anymore creating a place to throw a matress or haul stuff.)

but particularly good at no one thing.

Its strength is its utility.

It died here in america because its gas mileage sucked. In europe they still buy them today.

Next to the volkswagon new bug the most female owned car is the previa.



I had the sc version. Unfortunately they never made a manual sc version. But the auto trans in this thing is the same as the toyota truck ( I know this particularly bc I have a toyota truck) the most durable auto I know easily making it to 300k .
( edit the manual is also the same as the truck. The linkage is not. overall its part of the toyota truck line where the sienna is a big car)
I forgot to say, the previa also has dry sump oiling. Itss engine with maintenance has the pedigree to go a million miles.

Built for durability not for horsepower.

Ive got a 85 toyota dolphin with the 22re
an rv based on the truck, same as the hilux.

here in the us we never got the super charged hilux but there was a turbo charged one

In fact the closest thing the us has had like a supercharged toyota 4 hilux is the sc previa van. Probably has the same supercharger.

So you and both have a bmw and a toyota truck. Mine are both NA though.


My sc van was very fun to drive. the sc was noisy just like a jet and it was smooth.

my minivan is a Land Cruiser. It gets 12 mpg and you can drive right over pious priusses
who try to stuff their little entitled selves into places they shouldn't.

It also doesn't 'save the planet' much more than a Cat D9 does...

Relevance? I was thinking that a turbocharger would just about complete it.
And get it into single digits for fuel consumption.

I wouldn't mind some lag in it, as really, if you KNOW HOW TO DRIVE
all turbos can be zero lag when it matters...
