Bottom line is BMW needs to up it's CAFE (corporate average fuel economy) to meet benchmarks in both the US and the EU. You can only sell so many 760li super-sedans before getting pimpslapped by the regulatory boards. Hence an EV to offset said cars. Would you rather they do away with the M-division to meet CAFE standards?
If they did that then we'd never get to see the first FWD ///M model, or even the first ///M electric vehicle. :(

            Thank you.

I dont like it much but they need to lower their fleet emissions, so who cares?

Its not like they are halting production on the performance cars or anything

Finally someone brought it up. That's exactly right. Just like Aston Martin has to sell that abortion of a smart car wannabe to keep pumping out DBSs

Anywho, that car, for what it is, is a disgrace to what BMW has always stood for. Its sad to see they couldn't find another way around it, but oh well. As long as these cars allow BMW to put out some nice high performance machines, then that's fine by me.

sounds like I'm alone but i would buy it, we live in the city and it makes perfict sense for us. in fact the wife and i are looking to get the fiat 500 for her to bop around in from Manhattan to Nassau county where her family lives.
she has a 08 335i TT now that doesnt see much use and she doesnt want to park it on the street so we keep it out in EH.
so again this car makes sense for us.
as for looks.....well will just have to wait and see wont we....

Just as its been said, this is a necessary sacrifice that needs to be made so we can keep the performance models coming!

If you were told by a doctor had to shave your arms to keep your dick from shrinking would you do it? Exactly.

It's not like this is the first time BMW has developed economy cars in order to meet fuel economy standards. 325e anyone? 528e? 316i? All built purely for the purpose of better economy.
