Thats pretty much all you need to know. I need to buy a new set. As of last week my calipers have the dreaded "for reference only" sticker on them. My inside tips are worn out. I might put them up for really cheap as they would be perfect for someones garage/workshop. Our QC guy doesnt even want them on the premises.Leave a comment:

I mean I have a starrett digital caliper and 0-4" micrometer set, and know how to use them. I just didn't see the point in a teeny tiny caliper-micrometer bastard child lol.Leave a comment:

Short answer is that you can measure the thickness of something with a lip around it. I'm sure a clever machinist could measure all sorts of other things as well. Heck, most people don't even know all the tricks you can do with normal calipers.
Go read this and edumacate yousef.

I have the plans made up and the steel on order. I just need to fab it up once the material gets here and buy the dies. I think mine uses the Pro-Tools ones. Gonna start out with 1" tube x 3" radius and 1.5" tube x 4.5" radius and go from there.Leave a comment:

I just was going by the indicator looking just like a Pittsburgh unit I got from a local bearing place, that they buy from HF.

First off.... It's Mr. Juan.
Sorry - I don't have the link. :| I know it took 2 months to get here. It might have been dealextreme.. Harbor Freight most likely sells the same unit - I don't know.Leave a comment:

+/- .005"?? Not that you need to, but you can do much better than that with just a caliper. Do you not have one?Leave a comment:

nice setup man! not much you cant do with what you got there. do you have a tubing bender? i made one from drawings i found online and it uses jd2 dies. it was pretty straight forward and you shouldnt have a problem making it with what you got there.Leave a comment:
