Heat Sink?? for the M20 intake manifold

I herd yesterday someone is developing a spacer between the head and intake manifold that will deminish heat transfer from the head to the manifold. Is this available on other BMW's ??? Other cars?? Does it work or is it mumbo jumbo.

I've seen spacers for the intake manifolds, but iirc they are made to increase hp/tq due to volume increase ... i think the 350z/g35 guys use these for example.

M20 manifold is a joke, even if you did add a spacer between it and the head, you have to deal the metal pipe with the spring under the manifold to the block.... no worth the trouble imho,

Well lets hope they can prove it's worth and workability its less expensive than Millers new entry to find lost/forgotten HP on the M20. That was my first thought, that tube and spring. On the bright side people are still looking and trying to make things better. I say a 200 wet shot of nitrous and a few spare motors.

I guess it would be be simple enough to cut out an inch of the intake runners and put silicone couplers. Then support the manifold with a bracket. Will this really make a difference? Probably nothing to write home about. Just look at how hot a stress bar gets do to its vicinity to the motor. Now a complete carbon fiber manifold would be functional piece of art IMHO. Someone get started and make one that resembles a Dbillas please.

Does the air heat significantly as it passes through the IM?

The M20 has that TB preheat thingy running off the coolant. Wacky.

Someone said recently that true sealed CAI will drop the air temp in the manifold 50 degrees. I'm messing with pulling the drivers side panel at the lights, directing the air to cool the AFM and intake, on the other side the panel has a closed hole in it, cut it out, put a 3" hose to a good size long, skinny scoop directed to the intake. I've cut out all the holes in the grills to get more air, this is in the K&N set up a BMW for cold air for there round and cone filter. Also working on a full ported M20 intake for less than the std. Extrude Hone $600 BS Will see, Vert. roll bar will be done this week.

At what point in the induction system are you measuring the intake temp?

Whats the pre-intake set up ???

I remove the driver side headlight for track days. I now have an e36 airbox behind it, but I was thinking about putting a cone or shroom filter right behind the headlight hole, I mean not 5in behind it like some, but right in the hole to get the coldest air possible. Anyone tried this? I might do some intake temp measurements when I have some time.
And would insulating (wrapping) the intake hose up to TB to keep engine heat away make any difference?

I've pulled the high beam and did ram air. Certinly a difference on the highway stomp.

I guess my #'s are skewed since i'm boosted. But that's what it reads when i'm cruising at freeway speed and not under load.
