Alright guys, ive owned a 89ix now for round about a year and i can honestly say i love the car but im at a e30 cross roads in my life. basically what ive come down to is that i really want a rwd platform with a swap (at least a s50) in the time that ive owned my ix its been riddled with maintenance issues that have been neglected by "po's"
So the deal is this i found a clean 4dr black e30 in manual which is originally what i wanted (picked up my ix because it was almost rust free and was basically what i was looking for). start to finish cost of car and swap id say roughly id be looking at 5-6k? what kind of reliability and fuel mileage can i expect of the car? how much in other maintenance will i be looking at in the future? ie: steering rack, wheel bearings etc.
This is the cross roads part. The original reason i got involved in the bmw world is that my buddy has a 328i sedan with some m parts swapped and a bunch of other work done. every time i get in his car i think to my self this is everything i need in a car (heated leather seats, duel climate control, rwd, with plenty of power, and near 20 city 30 hwy) now i could pick up a regular e36 for near the cost of a e30 and be satisfied. but if im looking to spend 5k or more on a swapped e30 setup why not just buy a e36m3 sedan own an m3 and call it a day.
if any one could give any sort of opinion of either or both models that be great. also any information of swapped e30s would be greatly helpful. personally i prefer the feeling of the e30 over e36 but id be willing to go e36 and get rid of all the maintenance/rebuild headaches of the e30 to go to something that i can just get in and drive and be 100% functional daily.
