I didn’t even mind when it arrived at my house one month ago inside a truck which had “On Time” written down the side. As we know from America’s arrival into the second world war, their concept of “on time” differs slightly from ours.

One of them actually pulled out behind me on a backroad by my house the other day. The thing looked about a foot shorter than my e30 in the rearview (where I promptly left him haha).

Yes, Ford has ruined their reputation for good now.

And how ironic that Top Gear is now coming to the states!

Aside from some of the vision and handling problems he'd experienced with the car, it seems like most of the trouble came from the alarm system. My question is, what's to stop someone like Jeremy Clarkson (who's obviously got more than enough money kicking around for buying cars like the GT) from having the alarm system removed and possibly having a different one installed?

Well, if they can't get an alarm straight...

That and it sounds like it was pretty heavily integrated into the car. The fact that they can immobilize it, cut in on the hands free phone, and such makes you think its like iDrive and is connected to everything and dealer alarms tend to not be that easy to remove by design.

Steal one, I hear the alarm is fucked up. ;)

Thye owner wouldn't suspect that the car was actually stolen.

well, that's the thing though- the article pretty clearly mentions that it wasn't ford themselves that installed the alarm, it was the local shop that had been picked for delivery of the <30 cars that had been slated for the UK.

still a mistake, but an administrative one is not the same as an engineering one, and this particular incident should not reflect on the significant percentage of GTs that will be delivered elsewhere (even though the platform itself has had a couple of incidents vaguely reminiscent of a software program that didn't quite spend enough time in beta testing).

I havent heard that. Other than this I have only heard about the catastrpohic control arm failure and main seal problem.

Im not saying I hate the car, I just stated they dropped the ball on this guy. You should be on your knees for the owners of your one and only Flagship car but if you are gonna screw up like this DONT do it with a world renouned autojournalist. If they done what was nessecary to rectify the problem immedately and given him a better loaner it probably wouldnt be in an article. And you know he is gonna catch hell about it all season long on the show, his obsession with this car has been a running joke for some time.

Id buy one if I had the money to burn but I might wait another year for them to sort all these things out. Its just like buying BMWs, its always smart to not buy the first two years of an E-code or engine. The difference is when the engine in my dads 7 needed to be recalled they gave him another 7 as a loaner and replaced the entire engine to make sure there were no issues with a rebuild.

Damn shame for Jeremy....the GT40 is a helluva ride from everything I have read about it. Sounds like Roush is to share some of the blame on this one. God know what kind of training these guys got before all 28 cars were shipped to the UK.

If my pockets were real deep, I'd pick up one of these babies, truck it over to Steve Saleen's shop and say "give it the works....and while you're at it, chuck the alarm/immobilizer. Put in Lojack instead." ;)

This entire story can be summed up in three words: "Built Ford tough."

"See, we're adding a little something to this month's sales contest. As you all know, first prize is a Cadillac Eldorado. Anyone wanna see second prize? Second prize is a set of steak knives. Third prize is you're fired."
