    Low profile jack stands?

Anybody know of a place that sells these? I always freak out jacking my cars up high enough to put jack stands under, the ones I've got now are a minimum 10" height so I have to jack one side of the car up a good foot before slipping a stand under it. Seems so sketchy, especially when the wheels are already off the ground at 6-7".

I can measure if you're curious but Sears/craftsman black ones are pretty reasonable height. I generally use them for simple stuff like changing a wheel, and go with the 6 ton i believe orange HF ones when I wanna get my body under the car.

You can always yank the adjustable part out of the stand and just use the metal base if it's too tall with the ratcheting doohicky in there.

also if you have the cash AC hydraulics have the nicest low profile jacks around.

i believe OP is asking about jack stands not the jack that lifts the car.

I can't think of anything you could do under the car where a few more inches of room wouldn't be an welcome addition.

Unless you think the car falling from 10 inches you'll be ok, but at 14 inches you'll be dead? It doesn't work that way.

What I do is put my car up on jack stand (usually only one end at a time) and then I walk around the car pushing on the car with all my weight. If I can't topple the car with all my weight while standing, I can't do it laying on my back. If I'm really wrenching on a bolt under the car I'll use my foot to counter act the force I'm exerting with my arm.

Just last night I read about a guy who had a car fall on him. His girlfriend found him. She and the neighbor frantically tried to jack the car up to get it off him, but he was dead. The car fell and crushed his upper chest. Of course he was using a single, factory scissor jack...so....

I've got a decent low profile jack, it's the stands that are the problem. I don't need/want my car sitting 12" off the ground when I'm just taking the wheels off.

                    Those do look nice^

I suppose if one were at all competent with a welder they could fabricate a set of fixed stands for their needs. I just assumed there was such a thing on the market, I could see it being handy for low track cars that spend a lot of time sans-wheels.

A quick Google search yielded no results but many interested people.

They don't really get much lower than the ones you have. Atleast from what I've seen

if u are just chainging wheels the jack alone is fine.

Working udner the car requires high lift and jackstands

Don't waste your money on jacks and stands. Put that money in a little jar on your dresser and each time you want to buy a jack/stands, put that money in there. Eventually, you will have enough to buy a lift.

What slammin said. Or get a loan and work on other peoples cars on the lift until you pay it off lol. My long time gfs dad has a lift in his garage, makes working on cars so much easier.
