The past 10 months I've been doing my dream job....
My personal mechanic has seriously been thinking of changing from his current situation (Works out of his house for $40/hr) to getting a real shop and charging $60/hr, while hiring an apprentice (me) for $20/hr.
Other than that, there will FINALLY be a BMW dealership here sometime within the next year or 2, which gives me some hope.
Too bad we don't have cool shops like that here, and I'm too poor to go to college.
Souunds like a badass job. It's cool to see someone go after their drem like that. Keep up the good work. I've always wondered if making working on cars your job take away from the fun and enjoyment of working on your own car at all?

Read my post above - it does for me, and most other people I've ever talked to. After 8 hours of wrenching cars, you don't want to come home and do it some more. Ever notice how a lot of mechanics drive cars that need stuff fixed? :)
Dude, that is an awesome path you have began. I plan on doing something similar at the beginning of next year. I will be attending UTI and then going into the BMW STEP program. I also initially started out at LA Tech studying ME before I came home due to grades...... :?
I just wish there was a school in the states that offered automotive engineering as a bachelor's degree instead of automotive technology, found one school that offered automotive engineering as a master's but you have to have a bachelor's in mechanical engineering.
well yea, im not gonna lie, i personally hate fixing my own car now. BUT i still love modding a driving it. so its all good still. it does take away from the hobby, but not totally.
and college class was gay enough that the stupid waffleswaffleswaffleswaffless around school didnt make up for it. finding ladies really isnt a problem outside of school honestly, so there's really nothign for me there.

Told you. Working at a shop makes you not want to fix your own car. Though he was quick to help me with my car, so go figure.
Dan, you probably didn't like the girls at school because you were calling them waffleswaffleswaffleswaffless. Duuuurrrr.
Dude, you got into some pretty good fuckign colleges...but still props to you
College isn't for everyone. I had full scholarships to Westfield State, MCLA, and Mass Maritime, plus substantial scholarships to Merrimack, Illinois Institute of Tech, and Northeastern.
I went to Northeastern and was enrolled in the Honors program under a Dean's scholarship for the Electrical Engineering school.
I had to keep a 3.0 - I got a 2.7. Without the scholarship, I couldn't afford to stay - so I left.
Granted, if I stayed, I'd be making 3 or 4 times what I'm making now, but it wasnt me. I made it 6 months, I gave it my best.
Nice job landing a spot in S.T.E.P Been there done that, good program and learned a lot and got a good job now. Sounds like you'll further your knowledge even more which will make you very valuable to any dealership. Just know that dealer tech isn't working in a race shop, a lot of it is BS warranty work and wasting time and money trying to fix little rattles for uptight owners, on the other side of things though, there's cool jobs to be done and a lot of money to be made. a little of this and that.
On another note: i forget who wrote this comment exactly...but to all the uti kiddies: you don't just go to UTI and pick to go onto S.T.E.P. Not trying to flame you or anyone at all, just wondering if someone (particularily UTI rep or student?) told you you can just pick and go as you please. I ask because I've been there, a lot of the students say all kinds or misinformation and rep's have been known to lie, mine never did but he really talked it up to be a lot more than it really is(UTI). Bottom line: There's a lot more to it. Not saying you can't or won't in the future, just know there's a lot of work/effort/time involved to getting there, if you do. example: i watched a kid who made it to S.T.E.P interviews and had every pre-requisite met but got his interview ended early and was told not to bother trying ever again for his bad attitude.
if anyone out there has questions they'd like to ask, post or pm, I don't mind answering questions or helping you out with something.
