you'd have to cut up an ix to do this. because you cant make a convertible into an ix.

its a crap ton of work to make a custom convertible. so no.

I've heard of one that BMW made but I have forgotten the details. IIRC they debuted the E30 M3 cabby as an ///M flare bodied car with an iX drivetrain. Forgive me if others say I'm terribly mistaken, but that's how I remember it.. The details are sketchy, it has been a long time since I thought about that..

For what it's worth, I have a full set of diamond-schwarz iX flares/skirts that would be a great starting point for an iX flared cabby build.

it should be do-able. its more a matter of cost. u would need nearly 2 complete cars. and a lot of welding skillz

I always thought an ix touring would be super-cool..

But yeah - doing and ix cab or touring would basically involve grafting a whole front ix clip to recipient car. Lotta work.

The ultimate franken-30 I can imagine would be a 2 door, ix touring with /M fenders - now THAT would be something else !!

I keep seeing cheap clean verts and rotted out IXs, I was hoping it was just a matter of swapping everything over but i knew that was unlikely.

Not really practical but its something but still thinking about it, i dont even really like verts much.

This is what got me thinking:

Yes it can be done, no you dont need a whole iX front clip, Yes you do need to cut and weld a little bit, yes it will be heavy... here are some pictures of a 4wd converted rhd e30

Oh wow - I didn't even think of the trans tunnel - thought is was more about the forward-shifted strut towers.. which look sort of peculiar there..

                          Interesting.
