I have a 100 mile round trip commute to work in the morning and my X5 is killing me on gas. I was looking at getting a 325ix to drive to work and around town, would this be a good daily or should I just go and buy a honda.

Ever looked into a Focus? You can find decent ones fairly cheap anymore. SVT suspension upgrade is under $300 and really makes it a lot of fun. 30+ mpg too.91 318is M50 swapped

325iX won't be much better on gas than your X5.
If you're hurting for an e30, get an eta (325e/es)

I get about 21-22mpg in my ix. I'd probably be lucky if I was able to get 27mpg in my regular 325i. Keep in mind, this is 25+ year old technology with high mileage. Only a 318is or 325e will get you that much mileage on a consistent basis.Comment

I always get 25-26mpg in my 325is.
OP: I don't think an E30 is a good car to buy to save money on gas. The maintence costs plus the poor mpg makes the payback period rather long. I would get a crx si if you still need something with a little fun.

The IX has to low gearing to do good on gas on the highway. Manual has 3.91 which runs like 3k at like 65-70ish, and the automatics have a 4.10 which would be even worse. I think i got like 200miles to a tank on the highway which is pretty bad.Comment
