    Highlight of my weekend

    Bought this stuff.

E30M3 front and rear suspension sans brakes, an M3 transmission, an E28? LSD, not pictured are a steering rack from an M3, decent condition US grilles, as well as some other random BMW diff. So stoked to have found this stuff locally, especially at such a good deal.

I had plans to 5-lug my early coupe project car but decided against it for cost and weight reasons as my car will only be powered by an M50tu but the E30 stuff should be fine and give me enough braking power. Just need to get a wheel bearing and some kind of calipers/carriers for it. :D

PS: how do I tell what trans that is besides the tag near the rear? It's too rusted for me to get anything off of it.

To find the diff ratio, just turn the input shaft once and measure how far the output flanges turn. the ratio of rotation is the same as the diff ratio.

Yep, I know how to do that with a diff, I'm just not sure which M3 trans I got (dogleg, close ratio)...I think it's just a "regular" one, but would like as much info as possible to try to sell it.

Found an ad on local classifieds site for "E30 Parts for 80's BMW" Or something similar. It was all stuff some guy's brother had left in his shed for like 10 years or so. I showed up with $255 I happened to have in my wallet and filled the touring up.

Yep, they bolt to the bottom of the knuckle, they're "tie rod knuckles".

rear trailing arms are pretty much worthless( same as reg. e30), as well as the tran is not from a M3. are the front control arms aluminum?
the front struts alone were worth it though. nice pickup

except that the rear trailing arms are 5 lug... so not worthless.

The trailing arms aren't five lug... the hubs are. The trailing arms themselves aren't M specific.

Yeah, I understand that but now for the cost of one new hub/bearing, and 4 used calipers and carriers I can 5 lug my project while keeping weight gain reasonable and having enough brake. Sure beats solid front rotors and rear drums (early 318i).

What trans did the M3 use? What else can it be used in? I'm assuming the bellhousing will fit M10 and therefore M30 engines as well? It looked like the M3 trans shown on realoem but I've never had a transmission out of an E30 before. Is it just a G260/240?

Oh and yes, control arms are aluminum, ball joints even seem ok but I can't figure out what the hell that sleeve on the inner joint's stud is.

i think the part number should be on the opposite side of the MC.

I was under the impression that the 265 trans, which was what was used in the e30 m3, had a detachable bellhousing and judging by your picture that doesn't.
