Bought a car without pinkslip. Help!

Hey guys, I just bought an e30 with no pinkslip and the guy was probably not the registered owner. The car is not stolen for sure. He bought the car from his cousin. How would I go about doing this transaction to register the car? Can I put his name on the bill of sale and application for duplicate title without his drivers license? He does not have a drivers license, he is a usa resident.

In Oregon you can do it if you have power of attorney, bill of sale, need a signed deal from the person the title is under, it is a bitch.

Now if the title is completely missing and no way to find the title holder, there is an even more drawn out process where you need to send a registered letter to the title owner of record, and wait.

No e30 is worth the hassle in my mind. I've shopped for a few cars and then had the runaround of "I don't actually have the title, my friend/brotherinlaw/cousin has it....". My fiance used to work for the DMV and she has always steered me clear of those situations.

bill of sale from the registered owner to you is all you need plus the smog certificate then you're good to go. i've done this before. no title just the bill of sale.

if the cousin had a bill of sale to seller, then bill of sale seller to you.
