No one makes this car anymore. The government won't allow them, normal people won't buy them. So it's up to us: the freaks, the weirdos, the informed. To buy them, to appreciate them, and most importantly, to drive them.

Id flat black it and throw some sportmaxxors on it, maybe a plaid shifter boot to pep up the interior too.

needs moar low, the hood rusted (good luck with it being fiberglass) and a huge stanceworks wing on the back (with ginormous gurney flap)

I used to work on those toilets. I could apply all your negatives about the M1 to the 190sl, but it's personal opinion in either case. To each his own as they say...
I'm aware that the 190SL is about as quick as a yugo. If that. As I said, the M1 just doesn't feel or look special to me.

It doesn't look like a BMW. It looks like some Italian thing that has a BMW motor and badges on it. (Oh wait, that's what it is...)

Haha, I attempted a ninja delete to keep it on topic, oh well. For the record, I don't spray my shorts over the M1 either. I think it's cool, but not something I'd ever need in my collection, regardless of finances.

I do....for those of old enough to remember when they raced in IMSA, there is a special place in our hearts for these cars. Since there were so few made, and a large number were raced, it makes a pristine road going version like this all the more desirable.

I'd buy it at $100,000 in a heart beat if I had $100K laying around (which I don't).

                  Thanks for sharing,

It's funny, I remember when these things weren't worth anything, relatively speaking. $60-$70k would get you a pristine one all day long. Hell, $150k was all the money for a 507 not long ago. Now M1s, 507s, and CSLs are blue chip collectibles.

It's definitely good to finally see classic BMWs getting recognition in the marketplace.

you'd be surprised, a lot of expensive/historic cars change hands on ebay.

The M1 is one of a few BMW's that I really love, and have a lot of respect for, but have no desire to own.

Man, you guys just don't understand. You (most of you anyway) weren't old enough to remember when Batmobiles beat the crap out of EVERYTHING in IMSA, pissed off all the Italians, British and especially, the Americans. We are talking only 20 years after WWII, feelings were still pretty raw.

So along about 1973, these weird chunky, weird little cars came along and beat the crap out of us on our soil.

A few years later, along come this car. All BMW fans were SO pissed...a 6 cylinder, WTF, WHY? Then we found it was so it could race in some series or other...but the race officials were so scared, feeling the sting from how badass the batmobiles were.

Please tell me that every damn one of you monkeydicks knows about the 1400HP M10 motors by now. If not GTFO and go learn some HISTORY! Seriously, this tiny bunch of Germans came and kicked our asses, did crazy shit. Go read up on it.

Then, this beast of a car was coming, even though it had a 6, we knew what BMW could do with a 6. Yeah, we all wanted a 12, but WTF rules are rules, right?

So now, we have this car all hobbled just so it can race in a certain class and they lost all sponsorship. IMSA blamed BMW, saying everyone was scared of this ferocious new car. They said "no one wants to play with you, go home".

BMW basically said "Hey, FU! We will make our OWN race series and race our OWN car!"

Thus was born ProCar. BMW ran their own series for 3 years IIRC, basically ran between the Formula races, had celebrity drivers, brought TONS of panache...and then it died.

Thus, the M1 was basically lost to history. The first real road car from the ///M division. IMO, had that initial race series happened, the M1 would be priceless today, like a Shelby Mustang or an AC Cobra.

Class dismissed, go do your homework.

It drives me insane that people don't drive their cars. Come on people. Leave the museum pieces to the BMW collection.
