so.. How hard can it be?

So I have a tinnie tiny oil leak on my 91 318iS.. my friend said that it could be the upper oil pan gasket or lower oil pan gasket. Well, I'm not worrying too much about the lower one but he said that upper one is really hard to replace and would cost thousands in a shop. Any comments? Has anyone tried replacing the upper gasket? I searched some write-ups but didn't find any. You guys know a link? ...Thanks!

drop ze subframe, but use and engine lift to hold the engine, and make sure to unbolt the engine from the subframe.

That's my take, anyway. Also, prob a better place to post something like this is general technical or M42.

the upper pan rarely leak, its either the lower pan, front crank seal, or oil filter housing ...

Take out bolts for motor mounts jack it up start taking out screws for lower oil pan, then inside there should be like 4-6 screws around the oil pump I I remember correctly. There are three screws from tranny to the upper oil pan an two long ones inside the tranny there's holes cut out for them. An extra set of hands will come in so handy
