        Pre 1990 are the same, 1990+ are airbag columns, ie different.

            I also don't know if this will help but I also noticed the steering knuckles are different as well. my 1990 doesn't have the intertwining fork looking things. it's just the u-joints and the steering coupler (flex disk)

                  I hadn't realized there was a difference until I tried to put the late model panel that goes under the steering column into an early model. The panels are not even close to being similar...

                    non-airbag cars should have a collapsable steering column also. Airbag cars are rigid to restrain driver in case of airbag deployment.
