i'm having a hard time putting the snap ring(#6) back on its place. the spring is too hard to be compress by hand. is there any specific tools to use?

i used a big spacer made out of some 3/4 copper pipe with a couple washers that fit around the column tightly and just tightened it down with the nut and slipped the clip on, worked like a charm1991 318is --- currently not road worthy
