    1987 325i smokes

Hi guy's, I have a 87 turbo'd e30 and it smokes when I barely get on the gas and when I stop at lights. I thought the turbo had blow-by and replaced it about a week ago. It started smoking within 3 days after the install. I can drive it hard with the boost up to 6psi. and sometimes it won't smoke othertimes it will. I notice it really likes to smoke when the car is in reverse and I back up to park. I checked compression and all cylinders were at 168psi., I assume the rings are good. The smoke comes right out of the exhaust.

Anyone else know what I should check ?

Instead of doing a compression test, do a leakdown test.

I bought the car about a year ago. I was told that it had been rebuilt within 40k miles. I'll try the leakdown test and let you know the results.

When you do the leakdown, add a teaspoon of motor oil after you do it the first time. If your numbers go way up, blame the rings.

The problem seems to be a vacum issue...it tends to smoke more when in reverse or slowing down...........Sometimes I can drive it hard and t doesn't smoke.
