stu i feel like i should let you know, the stroker isnt in this car anymore.

I wasnt sleepy wheelhop, i was just thinking. it was a lapse in attention, a mental error.

thanks for all your sympathies, i am finally coming to grips with it all, of those 17 years the car has been in the family 8 of them were under my tenure as a driver with an additional 2 years of technical ownership before i could drive. so despite my feelings of it being a family car, in reality it was my car, and i will likely miss it more than the others.

i will likely hear from an adjuster tomorrow or wednesday at which point i will be able to get it back and make a better decision on how to proceed. I believe it to be totalled, the front right corner took a good knock. The thing that "saved my life" is that i was going the speed limit, and was able to get to the brakes, however late i was at doing so. I would estimate impact was at 20-30mph likely in the lower limits of that, i struck the rear portion of the other car, spinning them around and turning my car about 100* to the right. Had it been a more solid collision it would likely have been a much worse night.

Glad to hear you're ok. I lost my e30 a year and a half ago after having it in the family for 22 years. I feel your pain.

I have to say it is very refreshing to see you accept responsibility 100%. I find this ability to be lacking in a vast majority of people in the world today (not dependant of age or generation) and like all other posters are glad you and the other people involved were not injured.
I think that you will do fine by the sounds of your statements, and of course, there is now a chance to make many more memories with whatever car you buy next.

sorry about the car, but health is most important.

after it being around for 17 years it is just weird to think about it being gone now. Add to that the way it went, and the fact it was my fault, i wish i could be angry at someone else. Not that im super angry at myself its more embarrassed and slightly disappointed. "im not mad im just disappointed"

Anyway, should hear from an adjuster soon. If it is totalled, which i expect, i will be buying it back. Im going to keep a few parts and either sell the rest as a whole to someone, or part it myself. I cant even think about how strange it will be to see it taken away on a rollback/trailer to its final destination... such an odd mix of feelings.

just ignore this thread when it starts getting too depressing...

there is a silver lining to all of this, but i feel guilty admitting to it. so thats for another day.

Everyone has had a moment of absent mindedness behind the wheel, some people are just unlucky and get caught in a bad situation in that moment so don't feel too bad. Anyone who think's this could never happen to them or are too good as drivers are full of shit.

With cars lioke these we tend to give people alot of shit when they mess them up, or wreck them by mistake or carelessly.
A wreck like this reminds me that human life and it's quality is the most important thing. It's just a car utimately. Better both parties are safe. You will be ok man, people make mistakes. Learn from them, and cherish what you have. You can always get another e30.
                  Yours truly,
