my fuel gauge is reading WEIRD

so filled my car up on a full tank (i let the nozzle turn off by itself) at the gas station. when i got in my car and fired her up, the gauge showed that the tank was only 3/4 full. i was confused but i just left. i've driven a little over 100 miles now and the gauge dropped down to almost empty. this shouldn't happen....

so basically my gauge is reading wrong. easy fix?

Did you notice how many gallons the car took at the gas pump? Stock I believe is around 11 gallons and it should definitely get more then 200 miles out of it.

erratic fuel gauge dawg. welcome to an e30. I just wait until the yellow light comes on before I fill up. that or else your fuel level sender next to you in-tank fuel pump is no longer working. they're cheap. I sold a used one for 5 bucks plus shipping.

edit: sometimes pressure will also build up in the tank before it fills all the way. this can cause the nozzle to click off premature. maybe your nozzle was shooting blanks. :p

^ this is probably want happen. Fumes built up in the tank and caused the nozzle to shot off easly and only giving you 3/4 a tank

I fill up full tank and it shows full on the gauge but within couple days it shows empty and when i fill up it only takes 6-7 gallons. couple times i drove on "empty" for a few days and then filled up 9-10.

The fuel gauge in my last eta was out for a few years. I just reset the trip odometer every time I filled up and refilled around 200 miles. It isn't a big deal as long as your odometer works.

That fixes my temperature gauge and my clock from triping but doesnt work on the fuel gauge.

My fuel gauge is all kinds of weird. It does the exact same thing. It will drop below the e when full empty though.

However I usually make it around 150-170 miles on a tank with m52/s50 and 3.73. 19mpg mixed with both. :(
