Smokey Yunick's Hot Vapor Engine
Collapse

Honda's F1 motors used to heat the air/fuel mixture during the early 80's turbo era cars. -
You can find instructions on how to make engines like this out of lawnmowers. It works.
How can some of you seriously debunk this with just your opinion? I would never say a word against this car, unless I drove it and it failed to prove what's written.
I wish I had the time and funds to play around with projects like this. Especially try it out on a more modern fuel injected and well balanced engine like the bmw dohc's.
I don't think its all the conspiracy theories that kill projects like this, rather the ignorance. The same ignorance that lead people to think the earth is flat.Leave a comment:

He's dead now, and took a lot of the details on how to make it work that weren't needed to patent, but would be to make it run to the grave. You would have to reverse engineer the motors he built for the Fiero, or spend a bunch of time doing trial and error to make it work. Sad reality of this idea.Chill guys, my comment was a joke intended to get responses exactly like this. I read up a little on Smokey after reading this article. He knows his shit. I'm still a little skeptical on the HP and MPG figures though. Kind of one of those, I'll-believe-it-when-I-see-it kinds of things.Leave a comment:

I wouldn't be surprised if Ol smokeys claims are true about the hot air engine. I also wouldn't be surprised if the engine ran off toluene (toluene does not vaporize unless heated to 70 degrees celsius). F1 cars in the 80's ran the stuff and had to route the fuel through the exhaust system to preheat the fuel. They also produced massive amounts of power (1500+ hp) with small 1.5L turbo engines.Leave a comment:

I bet he was stoked when the patents expired last year, its interesting to see the drawings after reading about it. I would love to see it in actual use, the theory makes sense but so do a lot of other theories in life.Leave a comment:

you have not seen my brothers fieroOriginally posted by NitroRustlerDriverI'm skeptical of any major break through by a guy in his garage. Especially when it involves a Fiero.
and Smokey was both legend and GOD when it comes to engines and how to make them way better in all respects.
My bro was obsessed with the hot cycle engine, will have to ask him about it to refresh me on it. IIRC the hot cycle Iron duke had some experimental ceramics in them to protect form the heatLast edited by mrsleeve; 07-10-2011, 08:57 PM.Leave a comment:

From what I've read, he used the turbocharger rather than to force air in, but rather to heat everything (creating the vapor).Leave a comment:

lost me when it says the "turbocharger" is not a "turbocharger" but a "Homogenizer".......
If it walks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, and in this case works like a duck.......Leave a comment:
