Owner claims "over 230hp". Im not seeing how an m50 with no listed modifications and no turbo can have power in that range. Am I missing something or is the owner completely off???

semi-related question... what is the high-end of the WHP range that one could actually achieve with a fully built, race-only NA 2.5L M50?
over-bore, balanced-blueprinted, cams, increased compression, header, intake work, head-work, tuned, etc.
NA only - no forced induction.
(just trying to see if that engine could be competitive in SCCA STU class...)Ben

S52 doesn't come in a 2.5L.
S52 is legal, but the car needs to weigh 3200 lbs.
a 2.5L car (engine doesn't matter) is at 2750 lbs.
That is a LOT of extra weight.
Highly competitive HP to weight ratio is 9.1-9.5 lb/HP at the wheels.Ben

A fully built race M52 (BMWCCA JP class), with M50 manifold, KK headers/3" exhaust, Evosport or Sunbelt race cams will be 240-250whp and cost a buttload.
Similarly built S52 will be near 300whp, with similar cost.
