$145 for 2 nails

So yesterday on my ride to work I got a flat on the highway. The sidewall got damaged after rapid pressure loss from picking up a nail. I had to replace the tire - $110. Today I was taking my rims off the car to clean them, and I saw another one of my tires had a nail in it and was down on pressure - $30 for a patch. What a crappy two days!

Last summer I was about to leave for the Mid Ohio AMA sportbike races. I was riding my r6 down there. My voltage regulator went the previous night, so I had to hunt one down.

Finally get it and put it in. Ride my bike home from the shop, to my buddies place. Another friend of mine goes "hey dre you know you have a staple in your tire?" pulls out an industrial staple, and pssshhhhhhhhhhh. FUCK. a hole.

I was about to make a 600 mile trip on my bike, unfortunately on the thruway (my buddy was in a car so had to follow him). so I didn't want to buy new tires and square them off. So I just did a big burnout, which sealed up the tire just enough. I still checked it at every rest stop, etc. and kept a 180 rear incase mine blew.

you should invest $10 in a patching kit. it take like 5 min max to patch your tire, and is really easy. plus you can patch your sidewalls.

$30 for a patch? Holy shit that is high!!!!!

Most places here charge $5-10. I do it myself. $6 kit at WalMart. Good for about 20 patches.

Patched as in the tire was removed and an internal patch was applied, and then the tire was remounted and balanced again.

That's still a lot. I've had that done once and it cost me $15. $3 for the patch and $12 for the mounting and balancing.

Im a tech at a goodyear gemini autocenter and we charge about 30 for an internal plug patch. They last the life of the tire and are 100% safe and do not void the speed rating of a tire like a rope plug. Theyre worth every penny IMHO. (even though i get them for free!)

the rule is that if its the injury is outside of the tread area, its not safe for repair.

Hmm, that is funny because the BMW dealership does the rope patch and warranties the original tires after that. They also do those for free.

Of course this isnt on my car, the 330. However I have raced on tires with a rope patch in them and they work just fine. :?
