    E30 with M30B35

I'm looking into building an e30 with an m30b35, I've never driven one and there aren't many going around here in Australia. Just a few questions if you guys don't mind.

How fast is an E30 with a M30 B35 engine (standard motor)?

    Are they fun to drive?

    Are there any downsides?

and last question, will it spin in first, second and third without forcing it to

    Regards,

      Torque :)

It's not that cheap after motor mounts, radiator, etc.

I've heard heavy front end, it's a big motor.

M50 starts you on the road to S50/52 or a turbo build. You can turbo the M30, but that's even more weight. The 318is was produced for a reason.
Drive it hard. Maintain it well.

Not really true. This should really be stickied:

Turbo your m20 if you want stupid fast.

Its fun. 24v swaps are not exactly light either...the weight is not all upfront its spread from the front all the way to the tranny ..... obviously if you do a swap you would b stupid to not upgrade suspention. You can make it oversteer if you want and 318 can also understeer. Its not all black and white.

Gas mileage, and for people who did not have enough for a 325i? ;)

b35 swapped cars are fun to drive. Don't expect ridiculously fast. Rather, quick. It is a very easy swap into a late model e30. It will get the wheels spinning through 3rd gear if you want it to. It is heavier than the m20 if you use all the accessories (PS, A/C). The added power and, more importantly, Torque is where the M30 shines.

I felt it was easier to work on the m30 over the m20 in an e30 engine bay. Everything seemed more easily accessible.

I'm surprised by that weight chart. It is still heavier than an M50, but not by more than a few happy meals :)

                        And the 318is E30 cost more than a base model E30 325i...

Turbo, i wouldn't bother because you will never stop playing with the tune unless you drop 15-20k on a good setup.

M50/52/54 I will never do because you're ruining an e30, i'd rather buy an e36.

I'm not looking for ridiculous power to make the car go psycho throughout all the gears.

I swapped my e28 from a B34 to a B35. It's stupid. I have 3.25LSD in the rear, and it will spin through 3rd. I'm also running a M5 clutch and FW, so it revvs up fucking fast too.

                            You will not be disappointed.
