524td purchased...what to do? Engine into ic or sell?

1985 524td is mine! Purchased with the intent of installing the engine into my 1987 325ic 5 speed. Problem is, maybe the car is too nice to part? 10x,xxx miles, nice interior, new tires. Needs some love...bronzit hood, a/c charge, etc. Runs very well, shifts well, automatic transmichigan. I think this car is a blast to drive...slowly. 30 mpg in town, 40 mpg, over the road, in a 5 series! 5 speed turbo diesel in the vert would be fun and funny.

It wants a transmission swap, otherwise, keep it as is.

          524td into e30ic

Pulling the engine, pulling the head...is it usable? Head gasket had to blow. If it is decent, I'll be doing the swap.

Diesel definitely needs a manual. Put it in the vert and add more boost. Tuned turbodiesels are total sleepers.

I dont think putting a manual behind the td is as easy and a gas engine. IICR the 524td only can in automatics over here and something about the flywheel is very specific and hard to find.

don't put a diesel motor in a cabrio, you'll choke... there is a reason that bmw waited until clean diesel 2.0d to put it in an e46.. this is coming from someone who has owned two m21d24 motors

Flywheel no problem. It has 4 pins on it to trigger the tach which can be recreated with bolts screwed into a singlemass M20 flywheel and that is only if you care about your tach working.

The worst one. 3 others not quite as bad as this one.
