E9 engine swap

Selling the E30 to pick up a E9 now. Had one with a Euro M30 swap as my first car about 10 years ago. Huge mistake letting that go. Anyways with the recent popular engine swapping going on, I want to do an engine swap as this car has been sitting well over 5 years. SO the question is what engine should I swap in. Go more modern with the M5x, S5x or keep it retro with M30.

I would not put a 24V motor in an E9 if you held a gun to my head, unless it was an S38. Needs smooth, high displacement 12V action, and needs old school sewing machine tick of mechanical lifters. Bonus if you use a dogleg trans and an M90.

you want an M30, preferably with ITBs, long tube headers, and a huge cam.

if I ever owned a nice E9 I'd want to put in an S85 or S65...but something tells me the chassis would be a little floppy in its factory condition with those engines.


M30, or S38, or S54...fuck over glorified M50s.

Don't you dare put a 24V in, that car needs an M30 more than any other. A local guy has a beautiful one, he and I occasionally go halfsies on shipping for parts. Really comfortable car to drive.

Well, Brendan from RWL here in Atlanta is about to stick an s54 in one of his... He has put numerous race M30's in them. He's the man to talk to about that. However, you actually have to talk to him. He's not on the WWW

Big Burly M30 gets my vote. Are you willing to build an engine or are you only interested in putting a used factory engine in?
