do e30 instrument clusters fit any type of e30 or do the connection points at the back change through the years or other components etc

eta's have coding plugs that will limit your engine to 5k rpm. really early e30's like the 84-85's didn't have coding plugs. vdo and motometer are interchangeable. hope this helps.sigpic

Get a cluster from the same or close year and model for best compatibility.
Otherwise you may need to swap the fuel gauge and coding plug.
early clusters also had coding plugs, but they are different from the late model cars.
