You don't have to swap the skins, just the lower seat section. Of course you would have to disassemble the brackets and mechanisms. It takes about 4 to 6 hours. It would also give you the opportunity to clean the parts and replace the seat shocks if need be. There is a write up on it somewhere. I'll try and find it. This would be way cheaper than reupholstering.

      NEW QUESTIONNNNN.
is there anything that cannot be swapped from one sport seat to another, for example some of the mechanisms underneath or rails or other support metal work. i'm about to buy a broken set with great leather and swap whatever is mechanically broken with my old set.

I'm in the same situation but I'm too lazy, I'm just gonna save up and get them redone in cloth and refurb all the mechanisms when I have the time to do so...

Just keep in mind the bottom frames are specific to driver and passenger. What makes them specific is the location of the turn knob that adjusts the thigh support, and also the front handle that adjusts the tilt.

The upper frames are specific too but it's not as much of an issue since the only difference is the passenger side has two tilt forward handles versus the one on the driver's side.

If using a passenger upper frame on a driver's seat then you can cut the extra handle off completely or if it's the long tilt handle then you can shorten it with a dremel to fit on the nicer small tilt handle.

Anyway to answer your question most everything can swap over as long as you have a driver and passenger bottom frame. You'll also need the driver and passenger specific rails & mechanisms
