I was 1 over the normally posted limit. 36 in a 25 lol. I was just pacing the line in front of me, too bad I was the last in line, so the motorcycle cop turned onto the street and behind me from the bushes he was hiding in. $220 later I got 3 points on my DL yay.

Municipalities are hurting just like veryone else in this nation. Speeding tickets are huge revenue generators and we should all take notice to how little it will take to actually get a ticket. I got 2 in 2 weeks and decided it was time to slow down. GO TO COURT! i got out of both of mine just by going to court and talking with the judge. Insurance going up is more of kick in the ass than the speeding tickets. However, 5 over I'm sure won't affect your insurance.

BTW I had to fire someone last week at my job for getting a ticket 25 over the speed limit. It would suck to not get a job because of a driving record or get fired because of it. Protect your ability to make money!

I don't really think it's the $90 that's the problem. It's a hassle, an undeserved increase in insurance cost, and a point on your license. Yes, California is a million times worse in this regard, but I've never heard of anyone getting ticketed for 5+ on I-5.

I was on I-5 going to San Diego two weeks ago and I was steady going 75-80mph the entire time. I shit you not, I was getting passed and flipped off by school buses, regular buses, grandmothers with disability placards, and literally 50 minivans. As someone said, if you aren't going 80mph you're just in the way.

And yea, there's been a lot of vagina on r3v lately.

My uncle has a framed ticket of a 1mph over the limit. First time he went out of state he got it. It was dismissed.

OP, you were speeding. Unfortunately that cop decided to not be nice and give you a warning. Be happy it was only that much. Around here anywhere from 0-20mph over is an automatic $130 fine, so if you're going to speed make it worth it, ha.

your more of a dick than a cop who gives a ticket for 1mph over. go throw yourself into traffic. police officers swear an oath to protect citizens, even if it means risking their lives for a douche like you.

thats a little harsh.. i get what your saying though. im not a big fan of cops. most of them are douches on a power trip. and if they really respected that oath, i think they would spend more time fighting "real" crime instead of pulling people over for 5+ mph. im not saying all cops are like that.... but the cop that pulled over the OP was lol.

i didn't read the whole thread but here's my input:
the posted speed limit is merely a 'suggested' speed to drive at. you can drive a little over, no problem. 5 miles over the limit is totally fine given that the road and weather conditions and amount of traffic allow it to be fine, in other words, safe. i'm not sure how it is in other states, but in california we have the 'basic speed law' which in short states that you can only drive at a speed that is safe and not endangering others and 5 mph over the limit is not dangerious imo, but that's just me and i'm no cop. but if it was sunny, a nice and dry paved road, and light to medium traffic, 5 mph over doesn't mean shit and i personally think you should fight it.

He didn't give me a ticket but did check my DL and insurance. Let me see you're papers. (probable cause).

The toll will increase by 100% soon! That's $.80-$1.00 if you have a Speed Pass, If you pay cash it's $1.60-$2.00! Also some of the on ramps and off ramps have $.15/$.30 (Speed pass), $.30-$.60 cash! The speed limit is 55mph, should be called Speed (p)ass.
Try driving though IL with a 3/4 truck at the speed limit with outta state plates. I hate IL.

                              not correct:

"California has a "Basic Speed Law." This law means that you may never drive faster than is safe for current conditions. For example, if you are driving 45 mph in a 55 mph speed zone during a dense fog, you could be cited for driving "too fast for conditions." You may never legally drive faster than the posted speed limit, even if you think it is safe."

                              Thats the first paragraph. More....

"Driving faster than the posted speed limit, or driving faster than safe for current conditions on any road is dangerous and illegal. High speed increases your stopping distance. The faster you go, the less time you have to avoid a hazard or collision. The force of a 60 mph crash is not just twice as great as a 30 mph crash, it’s four times as great!"
