buy my 318i, 7k it's great on insurance.
but yea, the late model 318 makes it real easy for m/s5x swaps. A less parts to source.Last edited by psyber_0ptix; 08-31-2011, 02:57 AM.Originally posted by FredKHowever, in your absence, I will likely sit in your seat buck naked while making racecar noises as if I were maxing your E30 out on the Mulsanne Straight while allowing the perforated vinyl to soak up my butt sweat (going 200 mph does that to you).

Since you posted this, get the 318. It's better.1974.5 Jensen Healey : 2003 330i/5Comment

I like my late model 318i, thank you very much. Though I will admit, they're great for swaps, but I won't go as far as to say the m42 makes it worthless junk. That's just closed mindedness.
That's like saying a 325e vs. the 325i is worthless junk. And how many people on this forum rock an eta everyday? BMW made different versions of these cars for a reason and each (for the most part) have something to offer a potential buyer, enthusiast, modifier, etc.sigpicComment

Late models got the M42 in US.
I'd personally roll with the 318....seriously. My dad has a 318 'vert and it's an absolute blast to drive, dare I say it rolls right up there with the 325 'vert he has. Both 5sp, both 'verts, and I'd rather have the 318 any day.
Really, I just hate M20s.....1974.5 Jensen Healey : 2003 330i/5Comment

they're called baby M3's for a reason. for some overall handling and power to weight > more cylinders.
something something M20 = 67.2hp/Liter
something something M42 = 77.8hp/Liter
maintenance just sucks since the 4 cylinder motors arent all too popular stateside like it is in EuropeOriginally posted by FredKHowever, in your absence, I will likely sit in your seat buck naked while making racecar noises as if I were maxing your E30 out on the Mulsanne Straight while allowing the perforated vinyl to soak up my butt sweat (going 200 mph does that to you).

yep. the only engine option for a late model 318 is the m42 here in the us. you see them in junkyards all the time. in fact, i even saw a 318i cabrio at the yard not too long ago.
the only difference between the 318i and the 318is here in the states is the lsd and 2 doors, and sometimes no sunroof.AWD > RWDComment
