Stereotype of BMW owners being douches fortified by dealer.

Dealers in the US have been getting around the policy of not marking up the MSRP of new units. IMO BMW of North America needs to step up and intervene. These arn't small purveyors which find rare cars and sell them up at inflated prices, these are licensed BMW dealers!

What is the problem again? Or the revelation?
This is old news and is standard practice with all dealers when a desirable model comes to market.

If indeed the cars are actually selling at retail for that much, I think the greatest failure goes to BMW NA for not properly pricing the car. Thats a huge margin they're losing on each sale.

Dealerships exist to make the most money they can from every car they sell. They're a business. I don't see anything wrong or immoral about marking something up if someone is willing to pay it. Selling something for $50k that you could have sold for $75k is stupid.

        BINGO.

we just delivered a U.S. spec 1M this week to a soldier- there was no mark up on it due to it being military sales, but only a few cars were even allotted to the military.
The first E93 M3 we sold was at over 130,000 euros the week they were released, its all about making money.

^ Supply and demand. Plain and simple.

If you don't like it or can't pony up then don't buy. Also just as simple.

Sure it's well within their rights to do so, my point was that they're prooving BMW to be a brand full of douche's once you go beyond enthusiasts of a particular scene.

I've got even more breaking news for you: BMW is a brand full of douche's for the most part.

Also like I mentioned this is nothing new and certainly not limited to BMW, this paractice has been going on since the model-T and by all manufacturers.

Nothing wrong with it at all. I could see it working in their favor is the 1m had remained at its initial offering of being a limited run car with only what 4200 units produced world wide, INSTANT COLLECTOR CAR and the value would then go up some as soon as it was driven off the lot. But BMW has said they will build as many as they can before production ends next spring. SO there goes the limited run, granted it will still be a rare car but more on the lines of a e30 M. If some one is willing to pay that then so be it let them, no way in hell I would be paying even MSRP, I would not buy unless it was at least 1500 off that... Never pay MSRP for a car not even a rare one.

And I would be buying a zr1 vette for that kinda cash or a gently used Aston, or 355F1 for a 100g to spend on a car. So much better performance out there for that kinda money than a lowly entry level BMW M car...................

This is no where near only a BMW dealer thing. My company bought a Volt a month or two after they hit the market at about a 7-8% premium for the privledge to plop down the cash. Everyone does what they can to make some cash.

Yes, but isn't it the same with most car companies. name a car enthusiast who is satisfied with dealer pricing on the new cars they are into...
Also, have you ever spoken to a "new" bmw owner about your car? Rarely do they give a shit about our world. That's just how it is.
Do this. Price my car, a 1987 325IS back in 1987... It was $26,900. That's a shit ton of money. and who knows what they were really marked up to. Guess how much an 87 Vette was... $27,999. Do the math man. BMW's have always been up there in price.

When I had my IS. It came with the original widow sticker a Loaded out 5sp Brozit 1988 325IS sold in NYC for get ready.................................. 33,180 Yes they are pricy and the they have always been that way, as much as a free market guy as I am, marking up a 1 series 40k is a little excessive IMO, but if they can find some fool to part with that much money for one, I am all for the parties making that transaction
