10K E30 and have 400whp and reliable? Yah ummmm what? 10K doesn't go that far and a quality turbo kit is going to eat up at least half your budget in parts alone.
Just saying.Leave a comment:

BTW noone of the swaps anyone has mentioned so far can be done for anywhere close to $10k.
If you can't spend more than $10k, do a s50 or m30 swap and you will be happy with the power.
240 HP in an e30 feels like the equivalent of more than 300 in most newer cars.Leave a comment:

Why do you want 400+ RWHP? That would be uncontrollably fast and unsafe in an e30. You would need huge rubber to even be able to use that power and not only a full suspension upgrade including everything but a subframe reinforcement kit and a serious heavy duty LSD differential.
The easiest way to get the 400+ RWHP you want would to go turbo. If you're doing it to any stock e30 engine to get that power it's gonna have lag and be pretty uncontrollable and non-linear, not to mention unreliable, especially with a $10k budget.
You would be way happier with a linear power delivery, high revving, naturally aspirated engine like the s54. It will be about 100 HP less than your goal but you will enjoy it much more. If the goal is tracking the car (not the drag strip track) then it will be way more rewarding and easier to put down the power.
But you will not be able to do an S54 swap with $10k.
If you want a good way to spend $10k either lower your expectations in terms of HP and swap a naturally aspirated BMW engine such as S5X or M30.
OR, if you are dead set on this number you want to dyno and that's all you care about, you will have to spend way more than $10k.Leave a comment:

But while I'm at it: m3 body, S85 swap, E92 5 lug (dem brakes), twin turbo, 5 way rear diff, and some of those spiderman headlights UUC sells.Leave a comment:

Hmmmm, I'd go with a single turbo 2jz with r154 tranny, 2.93/3.25 lsd, e36 m3 5 lug, some sticky tires, and a good body restraint. Oh, and as much chassis reinforcement as possible.Leave a comment:

S54 for sure imo but if 400+ is a mandate Ls is a good answer. Ast coils, Biiiiig brakes and a built diff. If 10K would cover that. plus there's wheels and tires, seats, bushings, steering rack, etc. To think of.Leave a comment:

Put 10k into a down payment for a house so i had someplace, not the street, to start dumping the next 10k into the car.
But if everything in life was good and the 10k was for the car.
I'd s54 it, then with other monies start to work on getting wide enough tires out back to control said 54 power.Leave a comment:
