Anyone have their E30 (specifically iX) totalled recently?

A buddy of mine who loved my iX so much, bought one a couple months ago. Early Sunday morning, a local cabby completely annihilated his car while it was parked, totaling it out. It was sandwiched between two cars, but judging by the pics alone you would think it was a direct hit.

Question is, he only had liability on the car.....and he spent $3200 for it. Car is a 1988 325ix w/ roughly 213K miles. He's hoping to get something for it. I checked edmunds, and it says the car is worth $1400 dealer, $300 retail, $35 trade in....yikes.

Obviously none of it is his fault, but I'm curious to see if anyone here recently got paid out on a total....if so how much? He's planning on buying it back if he can...and we're going to store it in my garage to hopefully find a donor car.

I'm sorry for your buddy's loss. I hate morons who don't pay attention to the road and ending hitting other people's cars and possessions because of it. Those people need to GTFO the road.

I know Edmunds says that iX are worthless, but see if you can get the NADA pricing and use that as the basis for the insurance payout. My state uses NADA prices for determining the value of a car (for tax purposes), and when I purchased my 88 iX a couple of months ago, the state told me my car was worth over $4k based on NADA pricing.

thanks man. yeah i checked NADA yesterday, and it said roughly around $3400....but we weren't sure what insurance companies usually base their payouts on. Fortunately he wasn't in the car when this happened. For his car having sustained this much damage (being the 2nd car in line), i can just imagine what the car that got hit first looked like.

you may have to fight for the amount the car is worth with the insurance by showing what they have previously been selling for, work you have recently done etc etc etc
I can run Auto Checks on VINs for tips/donations:
PM me VIN(s) and I'll get you ALL the public recorded info that I have available.

He can show the insurance company what he paid for it, and they will reimburse him for that. Plus tax, title, and registration. Should be no sweat.

If they give him shit, he can print out several (or email) for sale ads showing comparable ixs. My experience with insurance companies is that they pay you what it's worth.

When is society going to realize that the NADA prices do not apply to people without a dealers license?

Sorry for your friends loss. With it being the other drivers fault, I'd be surprised if they don't end up paying out something. But he won't get 3,400.

I'd be really surprised if he didn't. I got 3100 (total) for my 87es.
