    Another introduction

Hey all, just wanted to say hello. My name's Dan, I live in KS. Ryan Stewert got me to register quite a while back to view some topics, but didn't have an e30 then, so I kinda faded away. Well, I recently picked up an '87 325ic and I'm back, ready to learn and meet new people. Few details on the car, it's royal blau metallic, and had SEVERE water/sun damage, the top is toast, has been for years due to storage outside of the vehicle. The seats split open and are toast, and the carpet was full of mold, but has since been erradicated. It's been a lot of work thus far, but it's coming along slowly.

A little background on me... I also own a '95 Nissan 240sx and am very involved in the Nissan/Infiniti world, I've been a moderator and deepely involved with www.NICOclub.com (Nissan/Infiniti Car Owners) which is the largest Nissan/Infiniti enthusiast site on the net. I also coordinate most of the local Nissan meets here in KS and I coordinated all of the meets for the AZ240sx.org crew down in Phoenix, AZ where I spent the last year going to school at UTI (Universal Technical Institute). I've also helped coordinate meets for the KC DTMpower crew as well as other automotive groups.

I know a number of ppl on here including Ryan Stewert, Kyle (Bimmer8604), Bobby (88325isboy), and Ted (not sure on his name, he owns an IX in Topeka, KS)

So, wats up, don't be too mean :)

    Here's my S14:

I'll post pics of the Bimmer later on as after I finish a few things.

Nice S14. Why did you you buy such a ratted out E30 though?

Gotta respect the 240's - RWD owns joo. And besides, with a money shot like this...

...how can we be mean? :)

Beautiful car - good luck with the rat.

That is one clean S14, probably my favorite no lie. I love simplicity.

How did you like UTI? I'm most likely going there next fall.

thanks for all the compliments guys :)

let me go into a little more detail on the water damage... its mainly all cosmetic to the interior... the body and interior electrical systems appear to be unnaffected by it... the car sat out for a few years with nothing but a tarp over the interior, so seats and watnot or trashed, the leather is split and the mold is down into the foam... thought about ridding of the mold and reupholstering, but im not sure if I want to, I have enough projects going on with the 240 as it is right now, and I have a new motor to build for it (RB25). The cabby's motor runs like a champ and only has 120k on it, and had a new timing belt and water pump put on just b4 I bought it. So right now my focus is searching for interior pieces.

As far as UTI goes, eh... I've got mixed feelings about it. I feel like it's only worth about half of wat you pay for. There's a lot of good information and experience there, and I don't want to sound cocky because I still have lots to learn, but I really didn't learn as much as I had hoped. I feel like I have room to talk there because I graduated top of my class with director's honors/ perfect attendence/ and national honors society, but again don't feel like I got wat I paid for... maybe I had too high of expectations, who knows. However, It's definately one of those things where your only going to get out wat you put in kind of a deal.

                  kyle, thanks :)

A_325i, I did not attend a manufacturer program... I had gone down there with the intent to go into BMW since they had the program there at school, well, come to find out that I'd be sent off to Orlando to attend BMW... I couldn't afford to relocate for only 6 months to go to school again as well I wasn't willing to relocate all the way accross the country for only 6 months, but mainly it was a financial thing. The advanced training reps basically yelled at me in my meeting, they couldnt believe with a 4.0GPA and a handful of SOC's, perfect attendence, etc that I didnt want to go into a program... I told em the reasons and they basically ignored me thereafter. UTI is not an intstitution, its a coorperation, where they put making money over course content and training aids. You'll see it, just wait...

HAH Get into step with a 3.0???? ARe you kidding me? Yea, i dont think ANYBODY(Except Ford Fact(Wich YOU pay for)) will take you. Seriously, i think you need to look again at what they expect you to do. AFAIK I can take STep here in California, at the Rancho Campus as there is the STEP Facility here in the school. I have been told that they dont even look at you unless you have a 3.8, and that doesnt even mean you get accepted. Most important is your attendence. I have perfect attendance(was late once, 15min, doesnt count against overall) and a 4.0. Your driving record is also very important. Maximum of TWO(2) violations, they saw my report with only 1 ticket, and wanted to know if I would sign up for the test now. I told them that I've only been there 3 courses and they still wrote my name and number down.

Sorry for such a long post, but I couldnt stop laughing when you said 3.0 and getting into step.

How light are those wheels on your S14, they flow great with the car. And thanks for more insight of UTI down in Avondale.

Agreed, the rep I talked to on the phone for about an hour told me exactly what you said. You have to work for what you want at UTI.

eightyfoure, the wheels are 17x8s and weigh 17lbs, lb per inch aint bad...

yeah, as Kyle said, 3.0 will not get you in.. but those who don't qualify for the MSAT programs for watever reason and are still interested in BMW... aside from the FORD FACT program, they also recently started BMW Fast Track at the Avondale campus.... where u pay for the course like the FACT program and it has a strong emphasis on electrical (which is what you want to learn in the market today) .... its about $6k right now additional.... just an alternative...
