Hi everyone. Awesome website! Just wanted to introduce myself and show the first pictures of my project.
I'm a software engineer in the St. Louis area and I just picked up this 325e. A couple of my friends who own a few BMW's (325i, 530, and a 6 series race car) have been 'helping' me find an E30. I spent 8 years in Europe during the 80's/90's and fell in love with them then. I even owned an older 316 back around 1988. Wow, I'm old.
More to the point, I picked this up for a grand, and she's definitely a project. Here are the details.
Interior: Mostly absent! One upside to not having carpet is that I could easily see the floor of the car and it's in good shape. Only one spot that needs to be addressed, as far as rust goes. It also has sport seats. I assume someone added these but I don't really know. Seats will need recovering, in addition to carpet, door cards, kick panels, console, and a shift boot. Yikes!
Exterior: Only two serious rust spots. One on the passenger side, at the end of the trim piece, by the rear fender well. The other is on rocker above the driver side jack point. Several surface spots and around the window on the passenger side. You can see it in the picture. It's just surface rust so it shouldn't be too much trouble, when I get to it. For a car that lived, at least, part of it's life in NY and PA, I thought it was in pretty good shape.
More:
I found over $800.00 worth of receipts for suspension and break parts in the glove box. Driving it, I can tell they were actually installed on this car. The steering, suspension, and brakes are great. The engine is high mileage but runs great. All the electrics work, with the exception of the passenger side window.
Immediate Future:
I plan on changing out the timing belt and water pump before I put it on the road for anything longer than a few miles.
Wheels and tires. Gotta go! It's been lowered and has aftermarket wheels. Those are brand new 17 inch Pirelli's on there. I will address the 'lowered' part later.
Collect interior parts. Planning on black, on black, on black. :)
Sorry to ramble on with my first post.
Take care,
Matt
