Hello, I found a very nice merc. '87 300E 140K MINT. asking $1700. So, if anyone had any experience with these mercedeses, post here.... I really need some input from you guys. I know that this is a bmw board, but i'm sure there are guys here who had some experience with merc's. my major concern is mercedes 300E more/less reliable then E30? what whould be more practical for daily driving (school/work) '87 300E or '89-'90 325i/is? Thank you for you help! ;)

i talked today to a guy who actually worked on both cars, and he said that bmw would be a way better choice then a merc. mercedes' desel engines were much more reliable, that's why the "D's" were pretty durable.... i talked to my parents and we decided to stop on a bimmer either E30 i/is, or E34 '91 and /\ (m50)

The 300E and 320E from the late 80s and early 90s are very reliable cars. I'd just stay away from the 400E though, the V8s had a few more issues. I'd sport one for a daily driver. It's much more comfortable than an E30, but has nowhere near the fun factor of an E30.Adam Fogg- '88 M3
Common sense- It's the new 'gifted'

im a big fan of the W124 but i do not like the 300E at all, from the bumpers, to the headlights tailights, the nasty seats, to the most annoying engine mercedes has ever produced. You will have so many issues with the stupid Fuel Distributor it';s not even funny, you can never get them to run rite, they are always to rich, or they tend to stall out. Plus the trannies are def a weak point. I owned a '94 E320 and loved it, it drove nice it had pleny of power, but it had it's share of problems as well Most common Evaporator and head gasket failure. Aside from taht a very solid car, and with nice wheels and decent drops will def turn heads, mine did :)
THis is my old E320
