new to forum and e30's. N00B thread.

so im new to this forum. i come from the land of VWvortex.

i was curious if some one could help me out by just giving me a general post i could refer to when it came to things like:

    -bumpers(different kinds/years)
    -front ends
    -valences
    -model differences
    -rear ends
    -body changes

    and what parts are interchangable

like on my vw's you got you're small bumpers, big bumpers, multiple different front ends, stuff like that.

i know some basic stuff about these cars. like motor wise.

just help me out to keep from littering this forum with multiple stupid threads.
    Tuck tire. Poke rim.

88 and earlier are metal bumpers or also known as diving boards. 89 + have a cleaner plastic bumper set up. Eta's ( 86 and earlier) and 87's don't have the lower rear wheel arches like 88 + does. There's a lot more, but you'll catch on quick

from 88+ its a direct swap. -87 you need some trimming for the rear.

84 to 87, are the early cars. Key features are: Large diving board crash bumpers, high rear arches, small taillights, high rear valance.

88 to 91, are the late cars. Key features include: Sleek plastic bumpers, low rear arches, large taillights, low rear valance. I should be noted that early 88 cars have the diving board bumpers, but the late body.

Convertibles are early bodies up until late 91, then 92 and 93 are late body cars.

Ellipsoid headlamps are seen from 87 until 90 or so, when the chance was made back to sealed beams to cut costs.

Pop out rear windows were used until the 89 model year, when they were changed to fixed rear windows.

84, and 85 318i's were equipped with the M10 engine, 91 318is's were equipped with the M42 engine. 325 and 325e, 325es had the M20b27 engine, 325i has the M20b25 engine. Last year of the eta was 88, and the 325is begin in the 87 year. 87 is the only year an M20b25 can be had in an early body car.
