    Fuel Pump retrofit..

    Fellow Enthusiasts:

After having the project for 6 months, took the E30 out for the first time to a Test and Tune session at the Autocross. The hour drive and 70 miles or so to the track was uneventful. Once I got there, powered it down. Once it was my turn it turned over O.K, but slight delay. On the grid, then just as I was entering turn 3 I felt like it was loosing power and it shut down as if it had run out of gas. (Thank god it got me to the track).

Crank, crank... etc.. nothing.... Pushed it to the pits and pulled the fuel sender hose off the regulator and nothing coming out as I crank the engine. Bad smell of gas, maybe be bad. Pulled the fuel pump and there is fuel in the tank. (My Guage has not been working). Most of the guys said that the gas might be bad. I think so because it's probably been in there for a while. Managed to get a buddy to lend me their truck/trailer and hauled it back home.

It currently has an Airtex fuel pump installed. I was able to get a 325i OEM Fuel Pump on fleabay that is said to fit, but when I pulled the pump a few weeks ago, the connectors don't match. I did notice some sounds coming from the Airtex a few weeks ago..

My question is... how can I make these compatible? When I pulled the Airtex, it didn't have a filter, the OEM one has one and the connectors are not the same. Looks like the OEM one has an extra line..

    Help.. thanks in advance..

I searched for the link to the mod and can't find it. They said something about a dremel tool to get it done... any ideas...

      Thx..

the airtrex is the one in your car right now yes?

If so pull that setup out. and swap the pump. I dont see how youd have to dremel anything.

        maybe im confused... i donno

Will do! I recall a link that had to dremel out a base for a new pump. I think its for a 255 type one.. No worries, I'll intent that route first.

I'll up date the group next week.

yes. you do have to mod the bottom of the carrier for 255lph ect ect. that 325 pump should slip right in.

E-bay purchased fuel pump; fail. Old gas on a track day; fail. Member since '03; win.
Just buy the right pump for your car and don't be a cheap-ass. Just sayin.

The pictured OEM 325i pump will not replace the one in your late model. That pump is an early lift pump for the dual pump setup.
