if you want a driver, buy an eta. etas are tanks.

the whole late model look is not worth sacrificing ugliness and poor future resale value. that rust isn't just invasive, it's deep-set.

i bought mine for under a grand and it has given me very few troubles in my ownership with very little work.

The Car in the first post looks like a pile of shit. Not worth fixing unless you're Vlad.

Lol, yeah. i think i might just get this: http://knoxville.craigslist.org/cto/2616342253.html

i talked him down to $900, all it needs is a radio, and the power steering doesn't work. Too bad they're slower than eta's... sigh

OP... you need my services pretty bad.
I assist, buy, and sell vehicles on the side, and over the years have become very efficient at it and i have made a decent living and have afforded myself the ability to not be forced to have a job ever again.

            a few pointers.

            1. do not buy that car you posted first

            2. you are going to school? what will be your income.. what can you reasonably afford as far as upkeep goes? Just because someone gives you a free ferrari doesnt mean you can afford the insurance on it for example.

            3. how old are you? do you have any large pieces of equipment to haul around? instruments, lawnmower, etc etc etc.....

            4. the rest ill get into if you're interested.

It is clear that you are trying to accomplish a LOT of stuff on a VERY VERY limited budget which is OK, i specialize in helping low income families looking for first "nice" cars for their kids (and i do it for literally pennies). I believe everyone deserves something they can be proud of and enjoy owning no matter the current financial situation.

I do feel that you are looking into the wrong vehicle though for what you're going to be trying to accomplish in the long run, unless you are somewhat mechanically inclined .... (don't lie to yourself if you're not, you'll just end up broke)

PM or email me some VINs you are interested in and we can go from there, Ill discuss price later
I can run Auto Checks on VINs for tips/donations:
PM me VIN(s) and I'll get you ALL the public recorded info that I have available.

this is my first post on r3v, just got my first e30 the weekend before last, after considering a long list of cars up to $10k. the shape of mine was too amazing to pass up. i paid more than you're looking for, but mine is a 91 325i, zero rust (the car has been registered in texas since new), and i only paid 2650 for it after all is said and done. has a lot of new parts (well recently installed over the last year) patience is a virtue looking for a used car. i too am a college student, and the ease of maintenance and parts availability/prices was a big deciding factor for me. in the end, my $2650 e30 will cost much less than your sub 1k e30s.
just take your time is all i can say. try to save up, hold out for the best, car buying is nothing to be rushed. and mechanically, my car is in great shape, but there's a few hail dents, and a couple of random things to fix i plan on doing soon, but overall it is in great shape.
i'd rather sort something out mechanically than deal with rust, and luckily, nothing like either needs to be sorted on my e30, just some cosmetics. just my opinion.
              sigpic
'91 325i 2-door, sterling silver over black, 14" basketweaves, stock for now.
'92 Miata, red, boss frog double hoop roll bar, full power flex poly bushings, tokico 5-way adjustable coils, front strut brace, '96 1.8l swap, '96 brakes, turn signal intake, cheapo 15" 5-spokes. vlsd, no ps, no abs, no pw, no pl, no BS car. only has ac as a factory option. somewhere around 300k on chassis and trans and 180k on engine.

Yeah, but if has been maintained is the point.

Tell me that pile of shit he posted has been maintained! You would be lying and you know it.

Dude, take a patience pill and relax. Schedule your life carefully and just fucking suffer through not having a car until the right deal comes along...and for fucks sake, don't get that POS Volkswagen! Yo will burn in electrical hell, they are evil malicious piles of shit. I would take a $750 '85 Regal over ANY $1500 VW if cheap and reliable is the goal.

Spend all your spare time hunting. If you found a nice, clean, stock, WELL MAINTAINED E30 for $1800 or so, have your cash ready. They don't last a day.

                  Closing SOON!

my point is that it seems to be a common stigma recently that cheap = junk, and that just isn't true. proper research and patience can net you killer deal on one of these that will run without too much grief. however, it seems like everyone is always in a hurry to BUY NOW.

My aunt actually lives in st louis, too bad I'm about 9 hours away. That'd cost a fortune in gas. I guess my best option is to wait... sigh

for sure bring one with you when you buy the car if it's iffy. It's an easy job that takes about 5 minutes to replace on a late model on the side of the road...ask me how i know...
